Second royal wedding shoes: Meghan Markle, Princess Eugenie and more rarely-seen heels

Princess Diana and Queen Consort Camilla also swapped their footwear

Sometimes, one outfit just isn't enough at a royal wedding. Princess Eugenie, Meghan Markle, Princess Diana and more brides swapped their main gowns for stunning – and often very different – evening party looks.

But did they also change their footwear on their wedding days? It's not always easy to see their choice of shoes, which tend to be hidden beneath their floor-length gowns, but we've done some digging and found some rare glimpses of royals sporting more than one pair of shoes. Perhaps they added more comfort for hitting the dancefloor!

While the Princess of Wales may have continued wearing her Alexander McQueen lace heels that matched her gorgeous gown for her wedding reception, Meghan did a sneaky shoe change mid-way through her big day.

She opted for classic Givenchy court shoes made of a silk duchess satin for her ceremony at St George's Chapel, before swapping them for a pair of bespoke Aquazzurra heels that featured a pale blue sole to complement her halterneck Stella McCartney gown.

Just five months later, Princess Eugenie similarly chose different heels as her wedding day progressed. She began the day in a Peter Pilotto-designed wedding dress teamed with a pair of Charlotte Olympia shoes with a peep toe and block heel, before changing into a blush pink Zac Posen frock which was later displayed alongside strappy gold shoes.

Sadly, these were not visible underneath the very few photos released from her evening reception.

They weren't the first royals to switch up their entire looks – Princess Diana's low-heeled silk satin pumps which were embroidered with the letters C and D were nowhere to be seen as she headed on her honeymoon on the evening of her 1981 wedding. Instead, she wore a bespoke pink dress and jacket designed by David Sassoon for Bellville Sassoon with matching pink heels.

Meanwhile, in 2005, King Charles' second wife Queen Consort Camilla was pictured smiling to crowds in a pair of muted cream heels with her cream silk chiffon dress and matching coat designed by Anna Valentine and Antonia Robinson following her civil ceremony. Later that day, the couple attended a religious blessing where Camilla ditched bridal white for a silvery blue chiffon gold-embroidered coat from the same designer alongside matching grey heels.
